Halifax ComedyFest Celebrates 25 Years in 2020

(Halifax, NS) – Ha!ifax ComedyFest celebrates 25 years of comedy next year with their biggest festival yet. From April 22 to 25, 2020 more than 30 comedians from across Canada and around the world will perform at venues throughout Halifax, Dartmouth, and beyond.

“We’re making our 25th milestone a huge celebration with more shows, more comedians, more venues and more laughs” says festival producer, Kim Hendrickson, “Our roster is very exciting with new faces and returning favourites, and we’ll be adding even more artists in coming weeks.”

Ha!ifax ComedyFest’s 2020 roster includes internationally renowned performers Orny Adams, Rod Man, Jon Dore, Kevin McDonald, DeAnne Smith and Cathy Jones.

Orny Adams: A past festival favourite, Orny has specials on Netflix, Comedy Central and Showtime. He’s been on all the late night TV shows, but you might best remember him as Coach from the hit TV show Teen Wolf.

Kevin McDonald: Perhaps best known for his work with The Kids in the Hall, McDonald’s credit list is massive. Whether writing, acting or doing voiceover spots, Kevin has had his hands on That 70’s Show, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Rod Man: Winner of Season 8 of Last Comic Standing, he’s been on Jimmy Fallon, HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy, and appeared on the big screen with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen in Funny People.

Jon Dore: Jon has starred in his own CBS show, The Half of It, and the Comedy Network’s The Jon Dore Show. He’s guest starred in How I Met Your Mother and Inside Amy Schumer.

DeAnne Smith: DeAnne las appeared last at the festival in 2014. Since then she’s been travelling the world and taking it by storm! She’s also been all over TV on Last Comic Standing, The Late Late Show, and her video Straight Men, Step Your Game Up has had over 46 million views.

Cathy Jones: The This Hour Has 22 Minutes veteran is returning to the stand-up stage and taking it with a vengeance, and the festival is excited to have her back to grace our stage our 25th anniversary year.

Hosted by Mark Critch, the lineup for the 2020 Ha!ifax ComedyFest also includes: Nikki Payne, Trent McClellan, Adrienne Fish, Al Val, Ana-Marija Stojic, Dave Hemstad, Fiona O’Brien, Joze Piranian, Kyle Brownrigg, Megan McDowell, Mike Delamont, Myles Anderson, Nick Beaton, Nick Nemeroff, Nile Seguin, Salma Hindy, Todd Ness, Travis Lindsay, Yumi Nagashima and more still to be announced!

Ha!ifax ComedyFest is a joint venture between Premiere Entertainment Group, Pilot Light Productions, CBC and Halifax Comedy Festival Society. The event competes with the best comedy festivals in the world and is one of three comedy festivals broadcast nationally during prime-time hours on CBC Television. The television series has garnered ten Gemini Award nominations.
